Gary Massey is the founder of Massey and Company CPA, based in Atlanta. He has over 30 years of experience in tax preparation, tax planning, and IRS and state tax problem resolution. He holds a CPA, a Master’s degree in Accounting and Master’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in taxation. Gary is also a Certified Tax Representation Consultant.
Gary’s focus includes helping clients with tax problems. This includes representing clients in front of IRS and state agencies to resolve difficult tax issues, including audits, unpaid taxes, liens, levies, penalties, and notices. His work requires negotiation on a wide variety of tax matters, including offers in compromise, installment agreements, currently not collectible status, and penalty abatement.
Gary enjoys collecting art and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is married to Chelly, a native of The Netherlands.
Austin Bell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ.
Austin worked in the Finance departments of Citigroup, The GEO Group, Sun Pharmaceuticals, and Community Partners of Southern Arizona for 8 years, focusing on corporate finance and accounting. Austin found his niche after a transition to a regional Wealth Management firm, specializing in small business and individual retirement planning and tax services. Since 2019, he has been an associate at Massey and Company CPA, a boutique tax and accounting firm in Atlanta, GA, focused on the needs of small businesses and business owners.
Austin is a native of New Jersey and has lived in Southeastern North Carolina since 2018. He enjoys building custom computers, spending time with loved ones, and has a heart for volunteer work with local nonprofits.
Benjamin Massey is a graduate of Georgia State University where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Social Entrepreneurship. Focused on tax problem strategies, Ben works with companies and individuals to sort out complicated tax matters before the IRS. He prides himself on good communication, hard work and transparency.
Resolving tax matters is difficult. Ben assists our clients in making their experience with the IRS more straight forward and less painful.
In his spare time, Ben likes to play sports, read books, and hang out with friends. He wrestled in high school and loves the outdoors.
Joey Akbar, EA has been a licensed Enrolled Agent since 2012 and brings a decade of IRS tax resolution work and tax preparation experience into his role as an Enrolled Agent. He obtained a Bachelor’s in finance at University of Central Oklahoma and also earned a Master’s in accounting.
Joey has been in the shoes of the small business owner as he previously owned a small clothing store. With the knowledge he gained, today he enjoys helping tax clients with their filing requirements and tax savings.
Joey enjoys cycling around the lake and group fitness classes 3 to 4 days a week. His downfall is he is always on the search for some good Mac and Cheese.
Rafael Quezada, EA brings more than 30 years of diverse tax and accounting experience in his role as an Enrolled Agent and Accountant. He obtained a Bachelors in Accounting at Fairleigh Dickinson University and is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents, and the National Association of Tax Preparers.
Rafael is passionate about providing comprehensive accounting services, including individual, corporate, and partnership income tax return preparation to our clients.
Rafael’s hobby is being a singer/musician for a local band and sometimes performing at local venues on weekends
Merry Stewart holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication along with an Associate of Arts in Business Administration. In addition to being an Intuit Certified Bookkeeping Professional, Merry is also a Certified Associate in Project Management from the Project Management Institute. She also holds a Quickbooks Online Advanced certification.
Merry’s education, training, and broad experience in bookkeeping, tax preparation, budgeting, financial reporting, and accounting within the non-profit and construction settings have enabled her to serve various clients effectively and successfully.
With a focus on small business, Merry assists with organizational matters that lend to clear reports. Clear reports, in turn, enable sound financial decisions that avoid overspending, audit issues, and budgetary confusion. With more than 15 years of combined experience in the field and ongoing training, Merry is prepared to assist any small business with their accounting needs.
In her spare time, Merry enjoys traveling, crafts, and spending time with family and friends.
Peyton Applewhite holds an Accounting Bachelors of Business Administration degree from the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, Georgia.
Peyton is passionate about helping people and is focused on combining this passion and his accounting knowledge to help make the accounting process easier for our clients.
In his free time, Peyton enjoys being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spending time with friends and family.
Jasmine McFarland holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Management and Information Systems Management from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.
Jasmine worked in the purchasing and legal departments of University of Detroit Mercy, and the business administration department of American Iron and Steel Institute. Jasmine started as a Bookkeeper at Massey and Company CPA in 2022.
Jasmine is a native of Michigan. She enjoys traveling, spending time with her son, and volunteering for the MACK Youth Foundation, a non-profit organization that assists underrepresented youth, where she is also on the Board of Directors.
Evelina has a Bachelor degree in business administration and business law from the Academy of Economic Studies, Bucharest, Romania. Evelina was a business owner back in her country (owned a fitness club and a vegan restaurant). She moved to the USA 8 years ago and worked in a public accounting firm in Illinois.
As an accountant and tax preparer, she brings knowledge and expertise in financial management, tax preparation, and accounting. She recognizes that not everyone has a background in accounting or finance, so she takes her time to explain these concepts in plain language.
In her spare time she enjoys working out in the gym, spending quality time with her family and taking continuous education classes.
Elaine Smith holds a degree in Accounting from Georgia Southwestern College, in Americus, Georgia.
Elaine has 23 years of experience working with small businesses, helping them with bookkeeping and accounting. She is a QuickBooks ProAdvisor and is proficient in both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
Elaine enjoys spending time with her family and her dogs. She also spends time sewing, quilting, riding her horse and motorcycling.
Lina holds a medical degree in Microbiology and Bioanalysis from the Industrial University of Santander.
Lina joined the team at Massey and company CPA in 2022. Her focus includes working and communicating with clients to help and guide them on their process to become a part of the firm.
In her free time, Lina enjoys traveling, playing piano, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Leigh Matthews obtained an associate degree in business from Truett McConnell College. She worked for the Rockdale County School System as an Administrative Assistant for several years before joining Massey and Company CPA.
She is a co-owner of a four-generation hobby farm in Madison, Georgia. Leigh also breeds Labrador Retrievers and Flemish Giant rabbits. She enjoys spending time with her husband of 35 years, three children and three grandchildren.
Her hobbies include gardening, inshore fishing, interior decorating, buying and selling penny stocks and shopping for those perfect antique items.
Diego is a civil engineering student from the Industrial University of Santander.
Diego joined the team at Massey and company CPA in 2022 as an intern. His responsibilites includes communicating with clients, assisting tax preparers and social media management.
In his free time, Diego enjoys playing soccer with friends, working out, listening to music, learning new languages and spending time with his family.
